  • Description
We would like to inform you about the deprecation of the Lite plan for the Apache Spark service. The Lite plan of this service will be retired on 28 June 2019. The Enterprise plan was previously deprecated.

The IBM Analytics Engine service, which is built on separate integration points and compute and storage architecture, is a good alternative for the Apache Spark (Lite plan) service. IBM Analytics Engine provides the ability to spin up Apache Hadoop and Apache Spark clusters, integrate with Watson Studio, and work with data in IBM Cloud Object Storage. It also features newer versions of Apache Spark and Apache Hadoop and related ecosystem components.

Here’s what you need to know:
    • The Service Retirement Announce date is 5 March 2019.
    • The End of Marketing date is 5 April 2019.
    • As of 5 April 2019, you cannot provision new Lite plan instances of the Apache Spark service. However, existing instances will continue to be supported.
    • The End of Support date is 28 June 2019.
    • For a period of three months after the End of Marketing Date, which is through 28 June 2019, all existing instances will continue to be available on the Services dashboard in the IBM Cloud Console. Also all existing Lite plan instances of the Apache Spark service will continue to be supported.
    • Any Lite plan instance of the service that is still provisioned as of the End of Support Date will be deleted.
Delete your Lite plan instances of the Apache Spark service before the End of Support Date. We strongly recommend that you to move your applications to the IBM Analytics Engine service to obtain access to the latest versions of the Apache Spark and Apache Hadoop ecosystem components.
